The PA Would Rather Suffer Blackouts Than Stop Paying Terrorists

The Israel Electric Corporation just announced that they will begin rolling out blackouts in Palestinian areas of Judea and Samaria over unpaid debt from the Palestinian Authority. Parts of Bethlehem, Ramallah, and other areas near Jerusalem will experience blackouts for four hours each day, until the IEC receives payment on their debt or a deal is reached with the Palestinian Authority. The PA currently owes about 157 million dollars in unpaid electric bills.

In a frantic bid to keep their lights on, senior Palestinian officials have traveled abroad to try and fundraise on their massive debt. Unfortunately, with no light at the end of the tunnel for issues like this not to arise again in the future, countries like the UAE and Europe are less willing to bail out the PA once again.

There are two ways to read this story. First, this is what you’ll most likely hear in the mainstream media.

Israel not only controls the Palestinians’ electricity, but they choose when they can and cannot use it. Israel just announced plans to shut down the power to Arab towns and villages at will, showing that they truly are the oppressor. The Palestinian Authority cannot afford their electric bills, and should not be punished simply for being under the rule of occupying Israel.

If you read this story in the mainstream media, it might contain fancier language, or be more vague, but if it doesn’t sound something like what I’ve written above, I’ll be shocked.

Ready for the real story?

The Palestinian Authority pays hundreds of millions of dollars every year to Arabs serving time in Israeli prisons for committing terrorist attacks. The PA not only pays monthly salaries to these prisoners and their families, but they also pay monthly salaries to released prisoners, as well as the families of martyrs. Exact figures are difficult to obtain, but according to the Jewish Virtual Library, at least 180 million dollars were paid to terrorists and their families in 2020.

The PA has repeatedly resisted efforts by the international community to stop this pay-to-slay policy. The US passed the Taylor Force Act into law, which prohibits US funds from going to terrorists. Israel began deducting the amount of money that the PA pays to terrorists every month from the tax revenue that they collect. They even went a step further by prohibiting the PA from using Palestinian or Israeli banks to receive or transfer funds intended for terrorists.

None of this has stopped the PA. They continue to allocate at least 15 million dollars every single month to support murderers, attempted murderers, and their families. They have even been known to fire government workers if it means choosing between paying them or paying murderers.

By now, you’ve probably guessed at the truth. The Palestinian Authority doesn’t have a problem coming up with the funds to pay their electric bill. They have a corrupted moral problem of elevating murderers above every other status in their culture, even if it means their people will have to go without electricity.

The Palestinian Authority would rather their people suffer electrical blackouts than stop paying murderers.
