I promise you, this is the BEST news you will hear from Israel this year! Hamas’ supreme leader, one of the last in their chain of command, and the man who is MOST responsible for the planning and execution of the October 7th massacre, is now dead.

In Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu’s own words: this is the beginning of the end of the war with Hamas.

Yahya Sinwar died like an animal. He didn’t die a hero’s death, but rather, like a hunted animal on the run. The man who tried to eliminate the state of Israel and kill and torture as many Jews as he possibly could is now dead.

Breaking down what exactly happened

In a stunning, but not unexpected, development, Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas and mastermind behind the October 7th attacks on Israel, has been killed by Israeli forces in Rafah, Gaza. This event marks a critical juncture in the ongoing conflict and signals the beginning of its end, according to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Needless to say, the elimination of such a high-ranking figure in Hamas’s chain of command represents a significant blow to the organization.

Sinwar’s death was anything but climactic, occurring in an initially unrecognized encounter. On Wednesday, October 16, IDF troops engaged three Hamas terrorists in Rafah, only realizing the next day that one of the men they had neutralized was none other than Sinwar himself. The engagement involved a tense firefight, with Sinwar throwing grenades at Israeli soldiers before retreating to the second floor of a building. The IDF used a drone to find a wounded Sinwar, face masked, feebly attempting to swat the drone away, then fired a tank shell which killed him.

Among the items found on Sinwar were not only the expected weapons and ammunition but also everyday items like Mentos candy and a lighter. Perhaps most surprisingly, he carried an UNRWA teacher’s ID, once again raising serious questions about the infiltration of humanitarian organizations by terrorist groups.

Israeli Leaders Respond

Reactions from Israeli leaders have been swift and forceful, underlining the significance of this operation. Prime Minister Netanyahu declared that “evil has suffered a terrible blow,” comparing Sinwar’s actions to those of the Holocaust and praising the IDF for eliminating him.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s comments focused on the ignominious nature of Sinwar’s final moments, stating that he died “beaten, persecuted and on the run.” This portrayal serves to demystify the image of Sinwar as an untouchable leader, instead presenting him as a fugitive meeting an inglorious end.

A Terrible Man Met His End

Sinwar’s path to becoming Hamas’s leader was marked by violence and imprisonment. He spent 23 years in Israeli prisons for murdering IDF soldiers and suspected Palestinian collaborators, originally sentenced to four life terms. However, in a turn of events, Sinwar was released in the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal, which saw over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners freed in return for a single Israeli soldier.

Ironically, during his time in Israeli custody, Sinwar received life-saving brain surgery, a fact that underscores the complex and often contradictory nature of the conflict.

The death of Sinwar marks new opportunities in Israel’s urgent goal of freeing its hostages, brutally kidnapped and held by Hamas for over a year now. Meanwhile, Israel is continuing in full force dealing with Hezbollah in Lebanon, and no doubt, is still poised to strike Iran a powerful blow. In the coming days and weeks, all eyes will be on Gaza, Israel, and the broader Middle East as the full ramifications of this event unfold.
